The University of Pretoria offers a comprehensive Publishing Studies programme at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels — the only programme of its kind in Africa. The Publishing Studies degree provides students with a thorough foundation in all aspects of the publishing value chain, from origination through editorial processes and production, to marketing, distribution, and sales. The curriculum is designed to meet the needs of the local industry while maintaining international standards and best practices.
The department offers an undergraduate BIS degree, postgraduate Honours, MIS and PhD degrees in Publishing Studies, and ad hoc short courses. It has a wide range of expertise to supervise Master’s and PhD students, and coordinates the annual Book Publishing Industry Survey on behalf of PASA.
